We dream of a society where men and women will be equal in their ability to contribute to the prosperity of the society.
Since 2005 we have been taking regular surveys of slum areas of Ariadaha-Dakshnieswar (Northern suburbs of Kolkata) locality which has allowed us to identify the needs of the families living there and help them.
Current Projects
Tuition Classes
Srotoswini Subranarekha has strived to provide underprivileged children with the level of education they need to find in the form of free additional classes that help strengthen the base of the students and solidify their foundation so that they are not left behind in higher classes.
Vocational Training
In communities with severe lack of educational opportunities, vocational training provides means of education and earning. Committed to this idea, Srotoswini Subranarekha organizes multiple vocational training courses throughout the year providing women with training in handicraft, child keeping and more.

Donation Drives
Srotoswini Subranarekha works with other local charities to distribute essentials such as ration, clothing, blankets, personal hygiene products. During Durga Puja when everyone wears new clothes, Srotoswini Subranarekha distributes new clothes as Pujo gifts among the people living in slums, who otherwise might to be able to enjoy this very small but fundamental part of the celebrations.
What else we do
Organizing Co-curricular Activity
Annual functions, painting competitions, recitations and sports days are essential parts of our school days. But for children who can barely afford these things are luxurious events that they see on TV. But these aren’t just fun events, Srotoswini Subranarekha believes that these events are an essential part of a child’s growth and necessary for holistic development.
Therefore, every year we organize multiple events not just for children of A.G.M. Shishumahal but also children from other nearby schools, most of who are from a lower socio-economic background can also participate.
These events include inter-school drawing and painting competitions, sports days and recitation competitions, spelling bees and handwriting competitions and even a grand annual day.
Awareness Camp
A huge part Srotoswini Subranarekha’s work involves organizing awareness camps for women of lower socio-economic background to educate them about their rights, providing them with education about health, personal finance, legal proceedings and improving their level of social, technical and digital literacy.
Instead of large seminars of camps filled with hundreds of people, we conduct our camps similar to group discussions in batches of 20 – 30 people so that every voice is heard and everyone gets an opportunity to discuss their issues and hopefully find solutions.
Since the pandemic has begun, we have also been organizing regular camps to educate people living in lower income areas about the disease and information related to its prevention and treatment.
